A new study has found that space is a unique country in the world where very rare and deep earthquakes are more likely to occur. Scientists have also found out the reason for this, due to which Spain becomes a completely different land from the whole world. This is a very different type of tectonic plate beneath the Earth’s surface. Due to which Spain and its surrounding terrain has become very different. Due to the unique movements happening under the ground, different types of earthquakes are occurring here.
According to the report based on the study of seismic waves, when the tectonic plates beneath the continent of Africa and Eurasia collided. A part of Spain and its surrounding areas were completely overturned in the Mediterranean Sea. This incident must have happened millions of years ago. Scientists say that since 1954, five deep earthquakes have occurred 600 kilometers below the Spanish city of Granada.
Usually earthquakes occurring at this depth occur as aftershocks of a major earthquake. But a study of the 2010 Spain earthquake showed that there were no aftershocks. This means that compared to the earthquakes of the whole world, there are different types of earthquakes here.

When tectonic plates collide with each other under the Earth’s surface, one plate starts rising above the other plate. This process is called subduction i.e. subsidence, the layer rising due to this starts forming mountains on the surface. Whereas the bottom plate, moving inwards, starts merging into the mantle. Same thing happened near Spain.

All this happened with the plates of Africa and Eurasia due to which the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea is slowly sinking beneath Europe. The 2010 Grenada earthquake revealed that the waves were coming from greater depth. They found that a lot of water was moving downwards towards the cold plate. Due to this, scientists also came to the conclusion that this layer is moving downwards very fast, the speed of which should be 70 mm per year.
